If you thought Berlin and carnival don’t mix, think again. The folks at the Direktorenhaus art space provide proof that Berlin can actually give carnival a warm welcome, even though it’s officially over.
It just has to be the sort of carnival that comes from New Orleans: Mardi Gras. The Nola Pearls exhibition, which opens today, features works by Raúl De Nieves, Erik Kiesewetter, Rachel DeTrinis and Aubrey Edwards, all from the United States. The show bears witness to the creative buoyancy of the city they call the “Big Easy” and takes visitors on a voyage beyond the clichés and preconceptions as commonly seen in popular culture.
