Born in Gothenburg, Sweden, to Argentinean parents, José González brings together two very different cultures in his guitar-laden music. Highly technical arrangements go together with melancholy melodies and singing. Following the successes of González’s first two albums “Veneer” and “In Our Nature”, the musician recently embarked on his latest tour together with The Göteborg String Theory.

Their stop in Berlin last night was at the impressive Admiralspalast on Friedrichstraße. Doused in a cone of light all evening, González visibly enjoyed playing second fiddle to the delightfully good-looking orchestra and its sometimes radical rearrangements of his songs. However, it was the rapturous applause for the musician and his tour ensemble that baffled the man from Sweden most. His second encore was without accompaniment – they had run out of songs they had rehearsed together.
